POLICE HAMMERLOCK -- HIJI - ARMBREAK - CHOP

Description

This technique begins with the uke applying a standard police-hammerlock restraint technique. The "police hammerlock" that uke starts this technique with is accomplished by uke first turning tori around, and pulling tori's right arm behind tori's back, holding tori's wrist, palm out, with uke's right hand. Then, tori's arm is pushed up his back as far as possible, and uke controls the upper body with his left hand on tori's left shoulder. This hammerlock is weaker than our usual hammerlock because it fails to control the head (the controlling left hand is kept on the shoulder). This move capitalizes on this weakness.

Tori must first escape the hammerlock. To do this, tori attempts, with his restrained right wrist, to grab uke's right wrist, which is applying the hammerlock in the small of tori's back. Tori does this by rotating his pinned wrist outward (if necessary) and grabbing uke's wrist. Sometimes if uke is being extra cautious, it is necessary to make a slight turn to the left to bring uke's wrist within reach. Once the wrist is grabbed, tori must, in one motion, pull with his right arm to extend uke's right arm, and step back and left with his left foot, while rotating to his left, and throwing the hiji chop with his left elbow to the solar plexus or nose. The choice of targets should be determined by uke's left arm position - if his elbow is up, leaving his chest exposed, then the hiji should go under his elbow and into the solar plexus. If the elbow is down, with uke's forearm along the left side of uke's back, then the chest area is protected, and the hiji strike should be directed down onto the nose. Then, tori rotates quickly to the right, pivoting on his right foot and maintaining his hold on uke's right wrist, in an almost 360-degree turn, to place him behind and to the right of uke. The spin should give tori plenty of momentum to perform the armbreak and chop - which is exactly similar to the move in CLUB, juji uke -- ARMBREAK - SAKOTSU.

Steps

Variations

This move is also done with the hiji to uke's face (nose); the move is preferred as written since it is harder to block the solar plexus strike, and because it causes uke to collapse forward, aiding the final armbreak, chop sequence.
