MAT: SIDE CHOKE -- ARM THRUST - ELBOW HIJI
Description
Uke begins by putting a right-side choke on tori, who is on his back, on the mat. Tori defends by grabbing uke's left elbow with his right hand. Tori thrusts his left hand across between uke and tori's bodies and between uke's outstretched arms at a 45 degree angle, while simultaneously pulling uke's left elbow down to the mat with tori's right hand. This should collapse uke's choke. At this point, tori's left elbow should be well on the left side of uke's head. Tori's left elbow should now be used in a hiji strike to uke's temple (or whatever part of uke's head is most accessible. This will at worst force uke to let go with his hands in order to protect his head, or at best will disorient or incapacitate uke.
Steps
- Uke applies choke from tori's right, while tori is on his back, on the mat. Usual rule applies for tori - try not to have both shoulders square on the mat - have your body turned slightly toward uke, pivoting on your shoulder blade.
- Tori grab's uke's left elbow with his right hand.
- Tori simultaneously shoots his left arm between uke's arms at a 45 degree angle, and pulls uke downward onto his elbow with tori's right hand.
- Once uke's head is forward, and tori's elbow has shot through, tori may apply hiji to uke's temple.
Variations
After the arm thrust or the first hiji-strike, tori may roll back to the left in order to place uke's head on the mat, causing successive hiji-strikes to the head to be more effective, as the right side of uke's head will now be against the mat.
