PISTOL, parry -- FLEX THROW

Description

This is a simple pistol defense. Uke points pistol at tori so that there is no more than an inch or two between the muzzle of the gun and tori's chest or abdomen. Tori raises his hands and distracts uke. Then, tori pivots 90 degrees to the right, on his left foot, just enough to remove his body from the gun's target area. At the same time, tori parries uke's right hand with his left, to keep the gun hand from reaquiring him as a target. Tori slides his parrying hand down uke's right arm and grabs uke's right hand with both hands, with the thumbs of both hands placed on the back of uke's hand, then flexes uke's wrist inward, and twists upward and to the left, and flexes inward and to the left again, taking uke to the mat. This part of the move should be thought of as containing three distinct sub-motions - the initial flex to tighten the arm, the twist to the outside to take uke's balance and gain momentum, and a final flex to force uke to the mat. Once uke is on the mat, tori must kneel on uke's elbow with his right knee (to eliminate the uke's ability to aim the gun) and continue applying the flex until the gun is released (tori should be holding uke's hand, and therefore the gun, to uke's head). When the gun is released, the right hand may leave the flex to retrieve the gun, and point it at uke. Then, tori must move away from uke without crossing uke's body, while the gun is kept pointed at uke.

Steps

  1. uke holds gun to tori's chest or abdomen.
  2. tori raises hands, as close to level with the gun as possible.
  3. tori attempts to distract the uke, usually by getting him to talk.
  4. tori pivots on left foot slightly to bring body out from in front of the gun, and parries by bringing left hand in from the side.
  5. tori grabs the gun and uke's right hand with both of his hands
  6. tori flexes uke's wrist inward and upward so that the gun is pointed at uke.
  7. Once the wrist is tight, uke rotates it outward (to uke's right) to force uke to the ground. Tori continues until uke is on his back.
  8. Placing the right knee on tori's elbow, tori continues the flex until uke releases the gun.
  9. tori retrieves the gun, points it at uke, and retreats backward.
