FRONT HEADLOCK -- CHOP (pivot) - Kick - CHOP
Description
This technique begins with uke having tori in the front-headlock position. A frequent mistake made by those applying the front headlock is that they remain squarely facing their opponent. After using his left hand to create some space to breathe, tori takes advantage of this by stepping forward with the left foot and striking upward between the legs using the whole arm from the bicep to the fingertips as a striking surface. This first "chop" is a deep groin strike, which should loosen uke's headlock enough for tori to thrust forward, keeping his hips very low. A continuing pull downward with the left hand on uke's right (head-locking) hand, and the hip thrust forward, with head thrust back, should bring tori out behind uke and allow tori to straighten up, on the far side of uke's arm.
Now that tori has escaped the headlock, he maintains the grip on uke's right wrist, and, pivoting 270 degrees on his left foot, delivers a kick to uke's solar plexus. Maintaining the grip on uke's wrist helps tori accomplish the spin without losing his balance, and not putting the right foot down gives tori enough momentum to carry it out. Once the kick has been landed, tori returns his right foot to the mat, and strikes with a sakotsu to uke's neck (fifth cervical vertebra). Throughout the technique, tori should stay low, only rising as he begins to pivot, such that the kick lands as tori reaches maximum height - this increases the force of the kick.
